In Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll’s character the King of Hearts says “Begin at the beginning, and go on till you come to the end: then stop.“
And like everything in Alice in Wonderland, the advice is topsy-turvy.
The secret to a successful book, particularly business non-fiction, is exactly opposite—begin with the end in mind. If your book’s goal is to grow your business, then your book must be found by, and add value to, someone who might become a paying client.
You wrote your book from “inside-out”. You wrote about what you know.
In the author workshop, we wrestle with questions like…
- Who will buy your book, learn from it learn AND become a client?
- Who will champion your book and become a partner, reviewer or reseller?
- Who will buy and benefit from your book, and promote it, but aren’t future clients?
- Is there missing content that will make your book irresistible to your ideal reader?
- What are your ideal reader’s pain points and goals; how will their mindset shift after reading your book?
- Where do your ideal readers hang out, and what messaging will appeal to them?
This isn’t a coaching session where I ask questions and feed your answers back. This is hands-on, practical brainstorming.
By pinpointing a specific audience, we craft messages that resonate, so it’s the starting point for a website, a book blurb, social media post, email newsletter, or bookstore pitch. Your marketing is sharper and more compelling because it speaks directly to the people who NEED to read your book.
The ideal reader workshop may even impact on your book’s content. We tackle what’s holding your book back, fix niggling issues about what should and shouldn’t be included, and make sure your book not only gets read—but grows your business.
